Jim Chapralis

JIM C. CHAPRALIS was the pioneer in the international fishing travel business. In 1961/62 he established the Fishing Division for Safari Outfitters, Inc. In 1975, he founded PanAngling Travel Service, which he sold in 1998. Jim and his staff booked more than 40,000 international fishing trips for anglers and explored, developed and marketed numerous fishing areas around the globe. He has fished in almost 40 countries.

Jim wrote dozens of articles for major fishing and outdoor magazines and several books including World Guide to Fly Fishing, Fishing Escapes (co-author) FISHING PASSION: a lifelong love affair with angling, and, most recently, Master Your Flying Casting!...and have fun doing it.

Jim was elected to the original Fishing Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the Dolphin Award for his contributions to international fishing. In 2007, he was also elected to the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame.

He won the International Distance Fly Casting Championship (Paris, France, 1955) and the All-Round Casting Championship (Stuttgart, Germany, 1956). After a hiatus of more than 40 years, Jim returned to tournament casting and has won a number of Gold, Bronze and Silver Medals (Senior’s Division) in recent ACA Nationals. At the 2006 national in Long Beach, California, he cast 172 feet to win the Senior’s Single Hand Fly Distance event.

His varied background includes guiding for one year in Ontario, manufacturing and importing fishing tackle (Sportackle International), editing a regional outdoor publication and serving as a fishing consultant for an encyclopedia company.

Although he fished most of the great places in the world, Jim was addicted to Central Wisconsin stream trout fishing at Le Shack.
